On June 4th, 2025, Nyando Social Justice Center participated in the impactful Tamatisha Forum on TB Budget Advocacy, held in Kisumu and supported by CHS through the Stop TB Partnership Kenya. This vital forum brought together a diverse group of stakeholders - including Members of County Assemblies (MCAs), County TB and Leprosy Coordinators (CTLCs) from Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori counties, as well as civil society organizations and TB champions.
Addressing Gaps in TB Services
The forum provided a platform for open dialogue about the persistent gaps in TB services across the four counties. Participants discussed challenges ranging from inadequate funding and limited access to diagnostic tools, to the need for increased community awareness and support for TB patients. The discussions highlighted the urgent need to address these shortcomings to improve TB outcomes and save lives.
Spotlight on County Budgets
A key focus of the forum was identifying opportunities within the 2025–2026 county budgets to prioritize TB services. Stakeholders examined how increased domestic funding and strategic allocation of resources could bolster TB prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The forum emphasized that county health budgets must reflect the real needs on the ground and include specific provisions for TB programs.
Strengthening Collaboration for Impact
One of the most significant outcomes of the Tamatisha Forum was the consensus on the need for stronger collaboration among all stakeholders. Participants agreed to work together more closely, share information, and advocate for TB to be given higher priority in county health plans. Plans were also made for a follow-up meeting to track progress and ensure accountability.
Nyando Social Justice Center is committed to advancing TB advocacy and supporting efforts to secure increased funding and better services for TB patients. We believe that through collective action and sustained engagement, we can make significant strides in the fight against TB in Kisumu and the wider region.
We thank CHS, Stop TB Partnership Kenya, and all the dedicated stakeholders who participated in the forum. Together, we can ensure that TB is no longer neglected and that every person affected by TB receives the care and support they deserve.
