Supporting the Upcoming Measles Rubella and Typhoid Vaccination Campaign

On July 3, 2025, Nyando Social Justice Center participated in a key stakeholders meeting in Nyando, Kisumu County, to prepare for the upcoming Measles Rubella and Typhoid vaccination campaign. The campaign will run from July 5th to July 14th, aiming to protect children across the region from these preventable diseases.

Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through the air and can cause severe complications, especially in young children. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a widespread rash. Without vaccination, measles can lead to pneumonia, brain swelling, and even death.

Rubella (German measles) is generally mild but can be very serious if contracted during pregnancy, potentially causing miscarriage or severe birth defects. It spreads through coughs and sneezes, and symptoms include a mild rash, swollen lymph nodes, and fever.

Typhoid is a life-threatening infection caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria, usually spread through contaminated food or water. Symptoms include high fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. Without prompt treatment, typhoid can be fatal, especially in children.

Nyando Social Justice Center urges all parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated during this campaign. Immunization is the most effective way to protect our children and community from these dangerous diseases.

For more information, please reach out to Nyando Social Justice Center or visit any public health facility near you. Let’s work together to keep our children healthy and our community safe.
