On November 13th, 2025, Caren Wambui of Nyando Social Justice Center led a community sensitization session in Ombaka, Kakola, Nyando Sub-County, focusing on mental health and mental illnesses. The session aimed to educate residents on the causes of mental health conditions, how to care for survivors, and where to seek professional assessment and support.

A key emphasis was placed on addressing stigma and discrimination faced by people living with mental health challenges. Caren also informed the community about the available reporting channels for cases of discrimination and abuse, encouraging openness and support for mental health patients.
This effort aligns with Kenya’s broader mental health goals to promote awareness, reduce stigma, and improve access to quality mental health services at the community level. By empowering communities with knowledge and compassion, Nyando Social Justice Center is contributing to a more supportive and inclusive environment for mental health survivors.

Together, we can break the silence around mental health and build a healthier, more understanding community.
