Nyando Sub-County Multi-Sectoral Committee Launches with Community Sensitization at Nyando TTI

On September 25th, Nyando Social Justice Center participated in a dynamic day of action beginning with the Inception of the Nyando Sub-County Multi-Sectoral Committee (SMAC) held in the Nyando Assistant County Commissioner’s boardroom. This committee is tasked with a crucial role to coordinate, monitor, document, and report on issues related to HIV, TB, and malaria within the sub-county.

In the afternoon, the momentum continued as the Nyando SMAC team engaged in a sensitization activity at Nyando Technical Training Institute (TTI). Approximately 200 students were reached with important information about HIV, TB, gender-based violence (GBV), and malaria. The focus was particularly on raising awareness among adolescents and young people (AYP) about the “Triple Threats” — the complex challenges posed by these three diseases.

This committee and its activities play an important part in strengthening the health response at the grassroots level by ensuring that communities are well-informed and actively involved in combating these health threats.

The launch in Kisumu was also marked by the rollout of additional support activities starting the previous Monday, where Nyando Social Justice Center is proudly representing NEPHAK for the People Living with HIV (PLHIV) community.

Through these coordinated efforts, Nyando SMAC and its partners are committed to building a healthier, more informed community ready to face the challenges of HIV, TB, and malaria head-on.

Stay connected with Nyando Social Justice Center for more updates on this and other health initiatives impacting Nyando and the wider Kisumu County.
