Nyando Social Justice Center Hosts Kisumu County Convenors for Human Rights Defenders Mapping

On June 11, 2025, Nyando Social Justice Center was honored to host convenors from 24 social justice centers across Kisumu County for a dynamic and collaborative engagement. The gathering was enriched by the presence of Comrade Fidelis from Front Line Defenders, who joined us for a crucial visit aimed at mapping out human rights defenders (HRDs) both within and beyond the network of social justice centers.

Strengthening the Human Rights Defenders Network

This productive session focused on identifying and connecting HRDs who are tirelessly defending the rights of their communities, often in challenging circumstances. By mapping out these defenders, we aim to create a stronger, more supportive network that can respond effectively to threats and challenges faced by activists on the ground.

A Commitment to Protection and Support

Comrade Fidelis shared valuable insights on the importance of solidarity, safety, and capacity-building for HRDs. The discussions highlighted the need for ongoing support, training, and resources to ensure that defenders can continue their vital work without fear of reprisal.

Gratitude for Strategic Partnerships

We extend our sincere thanks to the Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) Hub for facilitating this important linkage. Their commitment to connecting and empowering HRDs has been instrumental in strengthening the social justice movement in Kisumu County and beyond.

Nyando Social Justice Center remains dedicated to fostering collaboration, protection, and empowerment for all human rights defenders. We believe that a united and well-supported network is essential for advancing justice and safeguarding the rights of our communities.

Stay connected with us for more updates on our work with HRDs and ways you can support the movement for social justice in Kisumu County!
