NSJC Joins Regional Movement Building for Human Rights in East Africa

From April 12th to 17th, 2025, Caren Wambui represented Nyando Social Justice Center at a dynamic regional movement building training hosted by VOCAL AFRICA and supported by FORUM CIV. This important event, held in East Africa, brought together human rights defenders from Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania for an intensive week of learning, strategy, and solidarity.

Uniting for Justice Across Borders

The training focused on strengthening social justice movements and deepening the capacity of activists to lead campaigns against impunity and oppression. Participants explored critical topics such as movement stages, strategy development, digital security, and effective storytelling-tools essential for building resilient and impactful movements.

A Shared Commitment to Fight Impunity

At the close of the training, human rights defenders issued a joint press release, pledging to support one another in the fight against impunity and oppression across all three countries. This united front marks a significant step towards greater regional solidarity and coordinated action in the face of shrinking civic space and rising human rights challenges.

Building a Stronger Movement

Nyando Social Justice Center is proud to be part of this East African network of change-makers. Through continued collaboration and shared learning, we are better equipped to advocate for justice, protect vulnerable communities, and hold those in power accountable.

We thank VOCAL AFRICA and FORUM CIV for their support and commitment to building a stronger, more connected human rights movement in our region.
