Yesterday, 1st December 2025, Nyando Social Justice Center joined other partners and community members in Kisian to commemorate World AIDS Day 2025. As a registered member of the National Empowerment Network of People Living with HIV and AIDS in Kenya (NEPHAK), we stood in solidarity with people living with HIV, their families, and communities across the country.
During the event, Caren Kiarie represented NSJC and Kisumu County by officially reading the NEPHAK 2025 World AIDS Day Statement, a unified message that was read simultaneously by county representatives in all 47 counties. The statement reaffirmed the commitment of communities of people living with HIV to ending AIDS as a public health threat, called for sustained investment in treatment and prevention, and demanded the protection of rights, dignity, and meaningful involvement of people living with HIV in all decisions that affect their lives.
World AIDS Day 2025, under the global focus on transforming the AIDS response, reminded us that progress is only possible when communities are at the center—leading advocacy, monitoring services, and holding duty bearers accountable. In Kisian, this spirit was alive as people living with HIV, key populations, young people, and grassroots organizations shared experiences, celebrated gains, and voiced the remaining gaps in access to quality, stigma-free services.
As Nyando Social Justice CBO, we are proud to be part of the NEPHAK family and to have contributed to amplifying this national statement at the community level. We remain committed to:
- Championing the rights and dignity of people living with HIV.
- Fighting stigma, discrimination, and harmful narratives.
- Advocating for accessible, people-centered HIV prevention, treatment, and care services for all.
World AIDS Day may be marked once a year, but for our communities, the work continues every day. Together with NEPHAK and our partners, we will keep raising our voices until no one is left behind in the HIV response.
